Djulin Marine Aboriginal Corporation

Djulin Marine Aboriginal Corporation is comprised of members from the coastal Wulgurukaba and Bandjin tribes, as well as several non-aboriginal members. Djulin is a Bandjin word meaning the ancestral homelands now covered by the sea. This reflects the Sea Country connections of both tribes, and the long history of Aboriginal occupation of Northern Australia, back through the millenia to previous ice-ages when sea levels were lower.

The corporation has three objectives:

Aquaculture products - Giant clams, trochus, pearl oysters, and marine ornamental fishes.

Ecotourism products - Marine and terrestrial ecotourism with an emphasis on the cultural connections of the Wulgurukaba and Bandjin traditional owner groups.

Training products - Training of aboriginal people in aquaculture techniques, and educational programs for schools and universities.

Djulin Marine Aboriginal Corporation hopes to develop the first phase of its operations at White Lady Bay on Magnetic Island, part of the Wulgurukaba traditional country.
